Stampin' Up Hair Gel Card With Swirly Bird Bundle

Hi friends! I hope you are all enjoying your summer. We have been enjoying the great outdoors, as we just came back from another camping trip. This time we were thankful enough to enjoy the warmth of the sun, and also got to absorb some of that much needed beach time. Check out this beautiful lake in British Columbia ...

It's just a little hidden piece of paradise. My only regret is that we had to leave before I was ready to say good-bye. On that note, the card I am sharing with you this week is on par with a waterfront getaway. I was inspired by last week's creations over at the Global Design Project. #GDP047 The theme was a nautical one. Although I was away, and unable to participate in time, I arrived home excited to make a gel card in keeping with the nautical craze!

The last time I made a gel card was for sure over 10 years ago. The technique has been around for a while, yet somehow it still excites me. You take a smallish zipper bag from your local dollar store, stuff it with hair gel, secure it with some adhesive strip between a layer of cardstock, and voila! The cheaper the hair gel the better! I decided to tint mine with the Island Indigo reinker so that it would match my card. You could tint it whatever colour you like really! The possibilities are endless, & once you've worked your hair gel magic, these cards are truly therapeutic as you just can't stop squishing that gel around!

As for the cute little life saver on this card, I custom made it with my Stampin' Up circle punches and my Flirty Flamingo ink pad using the masking technique. I'll post a few pics below so you catch my drift.

Those stationary sticky notes make the best masks as they stay in place when you stamp! As for the punches, I used the Stampin' Up 1/2 inch & 1 inch circle punches. Below is a how to video from Stampin' Up that showcases another way to use the masking technique.

Lastly, if you are loving the colour combo on this card, you can thank the team over at TGIF! Just click on the icon below and you can check out other stunning creations made with these fabulous Stampin' Up colours! #TGIFC67
